Why Do I Love You?

Ever wondered, why do we love the one we do?

'Why do I love you?' I am sure many people, who have ever been in a relationship would have got this thought. It could be for different reasons. But when I think (to myself) that ‘why do I love you?’ or ‘why am I still in love with you?’ I (my heart) feel the need to answer myself (my brain) with a logical and practical reason.

It’s not because we are married for 7+ years, or we stay together under the same roof, or we see each other every day or do things together. It is certainly not just because we can talk about everything under the sun. And yes, it’s certainly not just because, you are tall, handsome and so good-looking. Well, let me see if I can find the genuine answer to this question – ‘why do I love you’.

You know something, you are one of the bestest (better than the best) few things that happened to me. I get this thought when I see you sleeping peacefully, every morning. My cutie pie! You look beautiful. I can keep looking at you, for minutes, hours, days… eternity. Haha don’t know really, but at the least till my snooze button goes on and reminds me that it’s time for the day to begin. Get out of the bed, go to work, travel, and then come back home.

Coming back home to you in the evenings is what I truly look forward to, every day. My home is where you are (getting too corny I guess, well bear with me a little). In fact, I don’t know what I would do if not this.

You are my comforter, yes that’s the tag I can use for you. This sounds more apt than a husband, friend, counselor, or whatever role you play in my life. When my mind is in any kind of a mess, it looks for you, perhaps I don’t always seek advice, but feel the need for your presence.

When I am emotionally stressed or physically fatigued, my mind automatically reaches out to you. I want to be cuddled in your comforting arms and want you to wrap me in a big bear hug – my safe place 😊.

There are times when I want to talk to you, but there’s nothing to talk about; and I again just want to be with you, even if it is without saying a word or two. Just looking at your smile or cracking silly jokes (which only you laugh at) makes my heart happy (ahh...corny again…)

So, I guess it’s the effect you have on me and all of my existence. That’s the reason I love you!!

Draupadi - Action Prevails Emotions

The woman of Kaliyuga…. before the Kaliyuga descended One of the few very clear memories I still have of my childhood is when my mother was feeding me lunch and we were happily chatting about Mahabharata. While talking, I said ‘when I grow up, I want to become Draupadi’. She yelled at me ‘ pagal ho gayi ho kya?, kuch bhi bak bak karti ho. Khana khao chup chap ’. I was taken aback by her sudden anger. Barely 7-8 years of age, I didn’t quite understand the reason for her annoyance, then. Today, after decades I certainly do. Indeed, I do understand, why a mother wouldn’t want her daughter to become Draupadi or even get closer to what she suffered. All said and done, she was the heroine of the one of the only two greatest epics of the country’s history – Mahabharata.

Never Gone: Nostalgic…Back To ‘Bachchpan’ (Book Review)

Book: Never Gone Author: Anusha Subramanian Publisher: Penguin India Do you remember that feeling, when you had your first crush back in good old school days? Or, the days you spent trying to impress your love interest? This book will transport you back to those wonderful days – school days. At least this is what it did to me. It took me back to the days of learning and comprehending emotions such as feelings, emotions, love, friendship, companionship, sympathy, empathy, trust, happiness, sorrow, jealousy, hatred, revenge and the list is endless. I have completed my education in co-ed school and college and very closely witnessed love stories bloom and relationship break. I could completely identify with the story, plot, the setup and the characters. I loved the way the characterization has been done and the flash backs described.

From ‘ASL Pls’ To Emoji’s

I don’t get tired; no really, I do not get tired or bored at all narrating our story to anyone. Infact every new person I meet, I try to grab this opportunity to talk about us – You and I!   And I surprise myself when I realise that I still remember it all so well. Every single detail of 4 years of friendship, 4 years of long-distance relationship, and 7 years of being married. Well, can’t really say that about the last 7 years :P, but the first 8 years are like embedded in my DNA. Pic clicked by Sudipto Roy I think our story is unique. It’s beautiful. Just 15 years old but so much has changed in this one and half-decade. Or not much?
