Loved to Read - Vivid And True (Book Review)

Book: Someone To Love
Author: Ruchita Misra
Publisher: Harlequin

This book – ‘Someone to Love’ (STL) has refreshed the memories of SRK-Kajol-Rani starrer Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. I am sure each one of us who has been audience to that movie, will relate to the concept of love with friendship with it.

I wouldn't say the story is something new, but the treatment is and the simple yet captivating narration is something unique. It effortlessly holds readers’ attention.

It's a simple love story turned sour and what happens next with their lives is what makes the story.

So basically it’s a story of two childhood friends – Koyal and Atharv, inseparable. But one incident (which is revealed towards the end and I am not gonna give any hints) destroys this beautiful friendship.

Alright, it’s the presence of a third person, I know, it is pretty imaginable, but what isn’t is that the real reason behind this broken friendship and what it does to the two protagonists. Especially to Koyal, because of the hatred that she harbour for Atharv, she almost destroys herself. Whether she fights with her fate and achieves all that she desires, is something again, you will have to read the book for…

The interesting aspect of the story begins when the two meet again after almost a decade. It is the time, when they kind of click the refresh button of their friendship… in a more mature way.

The first part of the story is simply something you shouldn’t miss, there’s a twist hidden in it ;) Also throughout the book, the author moves comfortably between the past and present, keeping the readers  curious.

Another interesting aspect is how the protagonist Koyal overcomes her weakness and strengthens her character.

What's more impressive is that it feels that the author has lived every scene in the story intensely. How else would she describe certain scenes so honestly and vividly.

The book has several memorable phrases, my personal favorites are:

“The most unfortunate thing about memories is that you can’t choose which ones to remember”

“Hope, you wonderful, terrible thing.”

“Good times make for great memories. The bad times for greater life lessons”

It’s a one-time read, full of emotions, all kinds. Very vivid and honest!

However, the title of the book is too plain to go with the story

I received a copy from Writersmelon in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.
